Literature Text

Those nights you have, all alone. And the shadows become your greatest fears. You search, for comfort. But find none. You sit, and pray. Hope the darkness goes away. But, it doesn't. Your ears hear all. Even what's not there. Your heart beats faster and your skin is warm. When the silence comes it frightens you even more. Curl up tight. Close your eyes. And pray. Pray you'll fall in a deep sleep. Escape the bumps in the night. But, then you remember the dreams. The nightmares. Is staying awake and letting your imagination terrify you better than the nightmares that come with slumber? Still, you lay. And still, you're scared. You wish it were a dream and you'd wake to something better. But no. It's all real.

-

Please Lord, let me sleep, and chase the demons of my mind away. Everything frightens me when I'm awake, but my dreams even more. Please let me slumber in peace, so I may awake renewed. I do not care for the fear instilled upon me. I wish I was braver. But I dare not pretend to be. That's only fool's work. Though my eyes droop, that which is around me keeps me awake. And that which is inside my head keeps these eyes forever wandering.
Help me.
My Freaky Darlings,

I cannot sleep. My mind sometimes produces weird things at night.

We all have those times in our lives where our reality seems to match out nightmares.

I've slept in the same room for so long, and still the slightest change in the shadow on a wall can get my mind racing. I think so often it is more that there are so many nights where I want to die that I wonder if maybe something or someone has finally come to kill me. Not so long ago I used to hear my name being called when no one was around to call it. A shout from the downstairs or a whisper from the hall. Am I insane? No, I don't think so. Desperate, perhaps, wishing. Waiting.
